Top 5 Travel Songs of 2014

February 19, 2014
Travel songs

Music and traveling go together like peanut butter and jelly, so when I travel I make sure to have an assortment of brilliant tracks to listen to during my Journey. Whether it’s land, sea or air, all of these great tunes have something to do with traveling. Here are my top 5 travel songs of 2014. Songs are in no particular order.

M.I.A. – Paper Planes
Released: 2007
This song is a instant classic with MIA’s lazy flow and Diplo’s unconventional beats.

Vic Mensa – Suitcase (feat. Chance The Rapper)
Released: 2013
Chicago rappers Vic Mensa and Chance combine a chill beat with some cool midwest swagger.

Daft Punk – Around the world
Released: 1997
Before Daft Punk was getting “lucky”, they went around the world. This track was from the duos first studio album “Homework”.

Lupe Fiasco – Paris Tokyo remix
Released: 2007
Pharrell Williams, Q-Tip & Sarah Green lend their voices in this cool remix.

Metronomy – The Bay
Released: 2011
Put on your boating shoes and your nautical glasses because this London based band wants to take you to the bay.

Personally, I’m glad to see another store like ZARA come to downtown Seattle because I feel like it gives shoppers more options for ready-to-wear off the runway apparel and also now I don’t have to travel to Vancouver, BC to purchase their clothes.

Portland Style interview with Bob Davis

February 3, 2014
#PDXANTONIO

During my journeys walking around downtown portland, I found some time to interview the experienced Bob Davis, about Portland style and how people put things together. Bob Davis can be at imogene + willie, located right outside the pearl district (Downtown Portland’s shopping area).

Who are you and how long have you been in the Portland fashion scene?
My name is Bob Davis. I have lived in portland almost 8 years. I moved here to direct and buy for a local apparel retailer so I have been in the scene from the start.

How would you define your personal style?
I would define my style as a mix of classic, casual, vintage inspired. My foundation is a tee shirt, boots and jeans, then i build from there.

How would you describe the Portland fashion scene?
The portland fashion scene is as diverse as the residents but inspired by 3 distinct influences; the outdoors(think patagonia), sport(think nike) and rugged individualism(think filson).

In your opinion are there any trends shoppers should be looking out for?
In general I am seeing a DIY, mashup of vintage, rugged outdoor and tailored suiting. Also wool is important, fashionable technical outerwear, boots and denim.

Great news!

Tomorrow, I go on a train adventure from Seattle to Portland sponsored by TravelPortland.com, Amtrak Cascades and Timbuk2. If you remember, a few weeks back I introduced you all to the Portland Express. The Portland Express is a special train that rides from Vancouver, Canada to Eugene, Oregon. This is a unique Amtrak train and has been completely redesigned to give you the Portland experience. This experience includes newly upholstered seats, art, food and beverages from beloved Portland retailers.

Starting tomorrow I will be recording video, live tweeting and blogging my way through this two-day adventure in Portland. Who knows exactly what I’ll be seeing but if you have any suggestions please tweet them or message to me. You can follow the hashtag #PDXANTONIO OR #PDXNOW for coverage.

I like my travel bags to have both style and ample capacity. The Timbuk2 Aviator Travel Backpack is the essential bag to take with you for small out town getaways or quick weekend trips. One of my favorite qualities about this bag is the rain fly bag covering attached which gives it a bit of ruggedness during those wet days and protects your mobile devices like laptops, cameras, or mobile phones.
